Reduce Unwanted Facial Hair with Natural Facial Hair Removal Strategies

It is possible to reduce unwanted facial hair with the help of herbs, supplements and dietary changes.  Excessive hair growth, hirsutism, in women is often a result of higher androgen levels in the blood stream.  Reducing insulin production and testosterone levels gets to the heart of the matter for many women, while laser hair removal and electrolysis simply manage the symptoms.

Drink 2 Cups of Spearmint Tea. Studies have been done that suggest that 2 cups of spearmint tea a day can decrease androgen levels in the blood stream, thus reducing hair growth.  After five days of treatment, the women in the study experienced a significant reduction in hair growth on their faces.  To continue the effects, women must continue to drink the tea, however.

Nix Yeast. Some women have noticed a correlation between yeast intake and rate of hair growth.  To test if yeast could be contributing to unwanted hair growth, remove yeast from your diet for about a week to see if there are any positive results.  This includes all breads with yeast, and packaged foods that contain yeast or yeast extract.  If results are positive, you might consider taking yeast foods out of your diet permanently.

Healthy Diet. If you don’t think you are what you eat, think again.  Strive to eat foods in their natural forms (whole foods) over packaged foods that contain a lot of added ingredients.  Some believe that eating large amounts of processed carbohydrates stimulates an increase in insulin and that leads to excess hair growth.

Exercise. Regular exercise has so many benefits, including but not limited to managing hormone levels in the body.  Exercise is a way to rid your body of toxins and it helps keep all of your organs healthy, including your brain!

Vitamins & Minerals. Those who supplement with magnesium, zinc, copper, chromium, vitamin E, and vitamin B6 might find that it helps slow or reduce hair growth.  Make multivitamins a part of your daily health routine.  Zinc and Vitamin B6 can help reduce the hormone prolactin, a hormone that helps testosterone to get taken up by tissues.

Want To Get Rid Of Unwanted Facial Hair?

Generally speaking, women want to get rid of unwanted facial hair because of the embarrassment of having hair on the upper lip or chin.

The problem is quite widespread. To give an indication, one report from a few years ago gave statistics showing that approximately 1 woman in 5 in the USA is concerned with unwanted facial hair.

You may have seen on some beauty forums an ongoing debate on the pros and cons of shaving. It is probably best not to use a razor on the face for a woman. We’ll go into this a little further and then go into all the other alternatives.

Why Not Shave?

Some believe that shaving speeds up hair growth and makes the hair regrow thicker and more coarse. However, many professionals in the beauty business equate this idea with old stories and say there is no evidence shaving will do this.

So why would a woman not want to shave? Mainly because shaving can cause unsightly stubble! What woman wants stubble on her face? Shaving only lasts a short time before the hair starts regrowing so this can turn out to be quite a problem.

Another reason why many women prefer not to take a razor to the face, and not a minor consideration, is the fact that you run the danger of cutting the face accidentally.

What Are The Options?

If you seriously want to get rid of unwanted facial hair for good then be ready to pay for it and go for electrolysis treatment. Each hair is zapped with an electric current so the hair follicles are permanently disabled.

Even then a few isolated hairs may grow back, and they will require further treatment. Be sure to go to a qualified electrologist and make sure the clinic is licensed. It can help to find others who underwent treatment there and talk to them.

Another permanent hair removal method is laser treatment. It is still expensive but not as much as electrolysis. It is important to have a thorough consultation first and even have a test patch done to make sure the treatment is suitable for you and your individual characteristics.

Let’s now look at other hair removal methods which are much more economical and which can be done in the convenience of your own home.

The Economical Methods

Using a wax preparation or sugaring paste can work well on unwanted hair on the face. Many like to have it done at a beauty clinic by a professional which can make it a lot easier. They can usually provide assistance with skin care also to minimize the discomfort.

Depilatories are also available for the face but you do need to be cautious with these. Applying any strong chemical to the face can be risky if you have sensitive skin.

It’s wise to try the preparation first on a part of the body not so visible to see how you react and be sure to follow the directions to the letter, especially the number of minutes the cream should be left on.

Using tweezers is good if there is not too much unwanted facial hair. It goes without saying that they are good for the eyebrows also but if a large area has to be treated it can be time consuming and laborious.

In conclusion, if you don’t want to pay the expense for the permanent methods of facial hair removal, namely, electrolysis and laser treatment, you need to experiment with the other methods and find the one that fits in with your lifestyle and your skin sensitivity.

Finding the optimal way to get rid of unwanted facial hair can bring relief and freedom from embarrassment for many women.

Vaniqa is another option for facial hair. It works in conjunction with a hair removal method and slows down and minimizes hair growth. Learn more here: Vaniqa: How It Works Click here for an in-depth consideration of the top 6 facial hair removal methods

New Medical Lasers Offer Permanent Solution for Removing Unwanted Facial Hair

Copyright (c) 2010 Janet Webb

For men, not only is a 5-o’clock shadow or groomed facial stubble common place, but it has recently become a fashion statement. But of course, facial hair growth for women is anathema, and an estimated 41 million adult American women employ a variety of facial hair removal techniques regularly, some reporting daily care for unwanted hair.

Superfluous or excessive hair, sometimes called hirsutism, can affect any area of the body, but for women it is particularly vexing and embarrassing on the face. It can be caused by many different things, including genetics, ethnic heritage and systemic medical conditions, or even medications like steroids or birth control pills. Some popular short-term solutions for removing unwanted hair are electrolysis, plucking and waxing, and most women understand the time, pain and temporary hair-free status related to these techniques.

Modern medicine, however, offers an effective and nearly permanent solution for removing unwanted hair through the use of cutting-edge lasers. Recent advances in hair removal using medical lasers mean a safer, gentler and faster solution, using either the Cynosure Laser with TKS or the Apogee Elite laser.

With Cynosure, in as few as three to four treatments, this gentle beam of laser light can reduce unwanted hair. This relatively quick and painless treatment uses a laser that emits a gentle beam of energy that passes through the skin to the hair follicle. The energy is then transformed into heat which damages the follicle. The scientific principle called Thermokinetic Selectivity (TKS) makes this method of hair removal particularly effective.

For hair reduction with the Cynosure laser, nearly everyone is a candidate. Because hair grows in cycles, the laser only affects hair when it is in its early-growth phase. The laser disables follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of treatment. At any time, some hair follicles on everyone’s body are dormant. For that reason, repeat sessions are scheduled to treat the follicles when they re-enter the growth phase. Patients with darker complexions can be treated after a successful test patch, but fair-skinned patients with dark hair are the ideal candidates. Laser treatment is not effective on blonde hair.

This procedure can last from a few minutes to more than one hour depending on how large the area being treated is. The hair is treatd with a beam of concentrated laser light that selectively absorbs the melanin in the surrounding hair follicles and the hair shaft. Laser procedures can treat hundreds of hair follicles at a time, unlike electrolysis which kills one hair follicle at a time.

The revolutionary new laser that emits a beam of light which heats the target area, or hair follicle, and the light energy damages the target while sparing the surrounding skin, is the Apogee Elite. In addition to treating unwanted hair, the Apogee Elite treats small facial veins, bluish-purple leg veins and spider veins, and it works on all skin types including dark and tanned skin.

The number of sessions needed to treat unwanted hair using the Apogee Elite laser depends on the selected treatments and the skin and hair type. Sessions are usually 10 to 15 minutes long, although larger areas, like full leg, may take longer.

Exfoliation will occur naturally in the 7-14 days following the treatment, during this time plucking is discouraged, but patients may shave. Sunscreen may be recommended, but patients may resume normal activities immediately after treatment with the Apogee Elite laser. Results vary with each patient, but in some cases, one treatment may be sufficient while others might require two to six treatments before results are noticeable.

For less pernicious unwanted hair, there is also a FDA-approved prescription cream called Vaniqa that is clinically proven to reduce the growth of unwanted facial hair. Women who tweeze, shave or wax unwanted facial hair report that there is no longer a need for any of those manual systems or that they are greatly reduced.

Vaniqa does not only remove the hair, it slows the growth. Results are evident on almost all patients within 4 – 6 weeks when used twice a day every day, although some patients report needing longer treatment periods.

Like Janet Webb always says, looking good is half the battle. She goes to Dr. Raval at Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics for her permanent facial hair removal using the Cynosure and Apogee Elite medical lasers. http://www.rockymountainlaser.com/hair_removal.html
